A 32 year old Department of Public Works Official and four other suspects’ aged between 36 and 75 are expected to appear at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 November, for alleged fraud, corruption and money laundering.

The main suspect who was stationed at the Bloemfontein Regional Office and two of his former colleagues, who have since resigned, allegedly colluded with the service providers in defrauding the Department an amount of R3.6 million through submission of fraudulent claims for the payment of water and electricity between 2014 and 2015.

The suspects were arrested at their residential places in East London and Bloemfontein.

Investigations continue and more arrests are imminent.
