Public works officer arrested for alleged corruption

The Hawks Serious Corruption Unit together with Crime Intelligence have arrested Lefa Melesi (31) for alleged corruption on 24 June 2017.

Melesi allegedly solicited a bribe of R80 000-00 from a service provider for the tender that was awarded by the Department on 21 May 2017, to fix a roofing at Goedemoed Correctional Service.

The matter was reported to the Hawks who subsequently set a trap which led to his arrest upon receiving the bribe at Showgate Shopping Complex in Bloemfontein.
He appeared before Bloemfontein Magistrate’s on 26 June 2017, facing charges of corruption and he was granted R10 000 bail. The case was postponed to 14 July 2017 for further investigation.
