During the early hours of the morning, Sunday 30 June 2024 members of different Agricultural Unions who were busy with White-Lights patrols noticed suspicious movements in Tierpoort farming area. The team held observation until they witnessed stolen livestock being loaded in a motor vehicle. Information was given to the police in Parkweg and the Visible Policing; Crime Prevention, Bikes Squad and Flying Squad members assembled a Way-lay action on N1 National Road South leading to Bloemfontein at about 08:45.

The motor vehicle fitting the description given; a White Toyota Tazz was pulled over at about 10:30. Four (4) males occupied the suspected vehicle when the police stopped and searched for possible stolen property. Two (2) heads of sheep; one (1) slaughtered and one (1) alive were found covered with blue jackets on the back of the motor vehicle. Another sheep was loaded inside the boot of the vehicle.

The police interrogated the suspects who had no permit to transport livestock, had no proof of ownership and couldn’t explain where the animals were taken from. Two different cases; Possession of stolen property and Stock theft were opened at Parkweg and Tierpoort Police Stations respectively.

The suspects aged between 26 and 36 were arrested and kept in police custody. They will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday 2 July 2024.
