On the evening of Tuesday, 26 October 2021 the members of Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team have arrested two truck drivers on the N3 near Balmoral for possession of suspected stolen property.

Apparently members were busy policing the truck protest on the N3 when the business owner of Balmoral complex lodged a complaint about two truck drivers who occupied the N3 preventing other drivers from passing towards Harrismith.

Some of them broke the window of certain truck and stole some liquor.

The team went to Balmoral complex and on their arrival the road was blocked as reported.

At about 20:30, at least 30 truck drivers blocked the N3.

Members acted swiftly and managed to finally open the road. One of the truck drivers complained about some of their colleagues looting from a certain truck. The members went to investigate and found a male person hiding liquor inside a ditch. Upon noticing the police they attempted to run away however, vigilance by police members lead to their swift apprehension.

The two suspects aged 45 and 35 were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

The members seized 30 packs of 500ml liquor worth more than R2000. Both suspects were arrested and detained. They are expected to appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 28 October 2021 facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
