The South African Police Service, together with other role players, raided South Park dumping site in Bloemfontein on 22 June 2023.

Police have listened to the outcries of the community regarding the safety and security at the SouthPark dumping site in Bloemfontein and a large contingent consisting out of various units of the South African Police Service, such as the Visible Policing Units from various Police Stations, the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Crime Intelligence, the K9 Unit and other strategic partners such as the Department of Home Affairs and Mangaung Metro Law Enforcement, arrived at the SouthPark dumping site at first light for a police raid.

A private organisation complemented with air support during the operation.

This was not the first time law enforcement agencies visited the site; it was done in September 2022 and May 2023.

This is a holistic approach to curbing criminal activities at and around the dumping site.

When police arrived this morning, there was already a fire at the site, which was monitored by the relevant authorities.

Police arrested 16 undocumented persons, 14 men and two women, during the operation.

Several recoveries including ammunition, drugs and possible stolen items were made.

The heightened police presence sent out a stern warning that the police could return at any given time to raid the area.
