Police intercepted a truck loading 30 boxes of Khat leaves and arrested a male driver and his two female passengers on Wednesday, 12 February 2020 on N1 South bound.

A Crime intelligence information was followed which led to the suspicious white Hino truck being intercepted at Ventersburg. The driver explained that the load was being transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The driver and two females aged 46 and 36 year old respectively were arrested for possession of drugs.

The leaves believed to be Khat drugs were weighed and found to be 214. 942 kg with an estimated street value of about R214 000.

The truck was also confiscated for being used in the commission of crime. They will be charged and appear in Ventersburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 February 2020. The docket was referred to Hawks for further investigation.
