A 52-year-old police captain and his 50-year-old wife were arrested for fraud after residents were promised employment at one of the mines in Matjhabeng. The victims reported the incident after the promise of employment was not fulfilled. A case of fraud was registered in June 2022 at the Odendaalsrus Police Station.

They were arrested on 29 February 2024 at 10:50, and appeared in Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court. They were both granted bail of R500 each and the case was postponed to obtain legal representation until 12 March 2024.

A warrant of arrest has been issued for the third suspect, who was a subcontract employee in one of the mines in Matjhabeng, namely Tsediso Emmanuel Matsoso.
