The Ladybrand K9 Unit and Ladybrand police successfully arrested two of the seven suspects who allegedly attempted to rob a Ladybrand plastic factory during which a businessman was shot and injured in the process.
It’s alleged that on 22 October 2023 at about 19:00, the employees of the plastic factory were knocking off duty when security was accosted by seven armed suspects. The suspects demanded money but didn’t succeed. In the process, one of the seven suspects shot the business owner (35) in the foot robbed a security guard of a rifle before fleeing the scene in their getaway vehicle.
The Ladybrand police acted swiftly after receiving information about the suspects whereabouts and managed to arrest two suspects at a nearby filling station. The remaining suspects fled on foot in different directions. A case of business robbery and attempted murder is being investigated.
The two suspects, estimated to be in their 30s, are expected to appear before the Ladybrand Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 24 October 2023 facing charges of business robbery and attempted murder.
