Police in Vrede have arrested and formally charged a 20-year-old male suspect in connection with the alleged murder of Siyabonga Nkosinathi Sibeko. The incident occurred at Thembalihle Extension 4 near Vrede.
According to police reports, the fatal altercation took place on Sunday, 19 April 2026, at approximately 14:45. It is alleged that the suspect went to the victim’s residence to confront him. An argument escalated into a physical confrontation during which both men reportedly stabbed each other with knives. Sibeko sustained a fatal stab wound to the neck.
The 20-year-old suspect sustained injuries to his forehead and right ear during the altercation. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and was later discharged into police custody.
The motive for the incident remains unknown at this stage, and police investigations are ongoing.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Vrede Magistrate’s Court today to face a charge of murder.
