
FREE STATE — A 36-year-old man is facing a murder charge and is scheduled to appear in the Petrusburg Magistrate’s Court following a fatal stabbing that unfolded during a dispute at a shop in Bolokanang.
The deadly incident occurred on Sunday, 5 July 2026, at approximately 13:15, when the suspect and the deceased, identified as Lebogang Gratitude Modupe, got into an argument at a shop located on Boiketlo Street.
According to authorities, the altercation escalated when the suspect reportedly left the scene and went to his nearby residence to retrieve a knife. He then allegedly chased Modupe, stabbing him in the back, which caused the victim to fall to the ground. Reports indicate that the suspect continued to stab the deceased while he was lying on the ground.
Police were subsequently called to the location, where they apprehended the suspect without incident. Emergency Medical Services also arrived at the scene but pronounced Modupe dead upon arrival.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the suspect will make his first court appearance soon to formally face the murder charge. Meanwhile, investigations are actively ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the initial fight at the shop.
