Operation Vala Umgodi team arrested fourteen (14) undocumented persons aged between 18 and 41 during illicit mining disruptive policing actions in Free State Province. Foot, vehicle and air-to-ground drone patrols were executed in Allenridge Rock Dam, Meloding Calaria Location and Rathaba Hostel areas, and the police seized 417.66 kilograms of gold bearing material and different gold processing equipment.
During the policing actions, operators received and followed up on information about possession of firearm and ammunition. A search was conducted at a house in Hani Park – Bronville and the members found sixteen (16) 9mm live ammunition rounds and four (4) .38mm rounds in the house. The police then arrested the 44-year-old male for possession of unlicensed ammunition.
All arrested persons will appear before Court soon.
