
The integrated, multidisciplinary Operation Vala uMgodi has achieved another success in its fight against illegal mining, this time in Putswa-stene Section, Thabong near Welkom, following a tip-off from the community.
Intelligence-Led Raid Uncovers Illegal Gold Processing
After receiving information about illicit mining activities, law enforcement conducted surveillance and reconnaissance on a suspected property. A tactical operation was then executed, leading to the discovery of:

Three gold nuggets (10.50 grams)

Gold-bearing material (25.60 kilograms)

Gold processing equipment, including:

12.5kg oxygen cylinder

9kg gas bottle

Cutting torch, connector pipes with regulators

Crucible pots, steel plate, Borax, and mercury

A 36-year-old suspect was arrested on-site and faces charges of:
–Possession of unrefined precious metals
–Possession of suspected gold-bearing material
–Possession of illegal gold processing equipment
The case has been registered at Thabong Police Station.

In a related crackdown, the Specialized Security Group (SSG) Tactical Underground Team uncovered:

These items were found at an illegal mining plant, further exposing the extensive operations of underground syndicates.
