Swift reaction by an off-duty police officer, led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man for possession of suspected stolen property and theft on Wednesday, 01 November 2023 at about 19:45.

The member who was off-duty at that time, was at an ATM in Bullion Street when he noticed a member of a public being scammed and his bank card stolen. He kept an observation and witnessed the commission of a crime and then he apprehended the suspect.

The suspect had an accomplice who upon seeing that the first suspect was arrested, he sped off from the scene with a sedan vehicle with GP registration numbers. While the member was busy effecting the arrest, a marked SAPS vehicle with Sergeants Peter and Sefojane noticed the member struggling with the suspect. They assisted to apprehend the suspect.

He was searched and a bank card and a cloning devise were found in his possession. The suspect, Kagiso Morotolo appeared in Virginia Magistrate Court on the 3 November 2023 and the case was postponed to the 10 November for further investigations. The case is been investigated by Detective Sergeant Mzwabantu Matshaya of Virginia Detective Services.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested suspect was wanted for other cases committed in Virginia, Thabong and Welkom.

The Acting District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brigadier Envor Solomon applauded Sergeant Bangani who placed himself on duty to perform his Constitutional Mandate that is to protect and serve residents of Virginia leading to the arrest of the most wanted bank card scammer.
