The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigations have ensured that a notorious drug dealer, Chinedu Obasi (36), will be spending the next decade in prison after he was sentenced by the Sasolburg Regional Court on 16 April 2019.

Obasi who also went by aliases ‘Chriss’ was on the Hawks radar since 2016, for his clandestine activities mostly around Sasolburg, Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging areas. He would often outsmart local authorities whenever unannounced raids were carried out at his place as nothing indicating that he dealt with drugs would be found.

The court found Obasi guilty and sentenced him to 10 years on all 6 counts of possession and dealing in drugs (CAT) following intelligence led operations where various drug transactions were conducted. Obasi has been in custody ever since his arrest on the 22nd of March 2018 as Hawks investigators successfully opposed several bail attempts.
