
A 36-year-old man from Phuthaditjhaba has been arrested for the alleged brutal murder of his 75-year-old uncle, whose body was discovered in a grisly scene at his home.
According to police reports, the incident came to light on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, at approximately 12:45. A neighbour, alerted by a noise emanating from the elderly man’s residence, went to investigate. Upon arrival, the neighbour made a harrowing discovery: the 75-year-old victim was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, bleeding profusely.
Next to the victim’s body, police found a blood-stained hammer, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. The suspect, who is the nephew of the deceased, was also found at the scene of the crime and was subsequently taken into custody by the Phuthaditjhaba police.
At this stage, the motive for the murder is not yet known, and police investigations are ongoing.
The 36-year-old suspect is expected to be formally charged with murder and appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
