Highway patrol and Phuthaditjhaba Public Order Police Unit members conducted a roadblock on the N3 at Emoyeni that yielded successful results. The police arrested two suspects in two taxis traveling from KwaZulu-Natal to Johannesburg.
On 20 January 2022, a four-hour roadblock were conducted through search and seizure aiming to intercept any transportation of unlawful items which could be in transit between the provinces. A number of cars were stopped and amongst them were two taxis transporting potential criminals.
In the first taxi, police found a 38-year-old man from KwaZulu-Natal in possession of a plastic bag containing 1.6 kilograms of dagga, estimated street value being R2000.
In the second taxi, police found a woman aged 30 in possession of rusty 9mm pistol with 25 live rounds and magazine. Both suspects were arrested and detained.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate court on Monday, 24 January 2022 facing charges of dealing in dagga and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition respectively.
“Dagga trafficking and the proliferation of illegal firearms will always be addressed and those found involved will face the might of the law. I extend my appreciation for the sterling work executed by our members especially the seizure of firearms which could be used in commission of crimes”, said the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General BB Motswenyane.
