SAPS members received a complaint of an apparent mob justice incident at Ext 4 Qalabotjha. On arrival members found a male, identified as Oupa Daniel Mofokeng (53), lying on the ground.
It is alleged that on Thursday, 24 February 2022, at about 22:30, the victim was at his home when a group of community members came to his house and assaulted him.
It is further alleged that they were accusing him of killing his girlfriend who was found dead in the veld on Prospect Farm in Villiers on Saturday, 19 February 2022, in Qalabotjha, Villiers.
The victim was taken to Mafube Provincial Hospital for medical treatment however, he succumbed to his injuries on 25 February 2022, at about 09:00.
Villiers SAPS detectives are investigating a case of murder and no arrest has been made yet. Police investigation continues.
The Acting District Commissioner of Fezile Dabi District, Brigadier Mapulane Mbeloane condemns and discourages the community members from taking the law into their own hands.
