49-year-old Mojalefa Letele, a suspended Goedemoed Correctional Services Officer appeared in Rouxville Magistrate court on the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He is granted bail of R10 000 under strict conditions and the case has been transferred to the High Court in Bloemfontein. He will appear on the 25 March 2020.

This follows an incident that occurred on 29 March 2019, at Goedemoed Correctional Centre, where two female Correctional Services Officers were held hostage and attacked by an inmate whilst on duty.

Nomsa Joyce Stuurman (35) was fatally stabbed and her colleague stabbed and raped. The 38 years old accused, Jongikhaya Samsam who was already serving two life terms was arrested after the Tactical Response Team (TRT) forced entry so as to rescue the hostages.

During his court appearance Samsam explained to the court how he was coerced by Letele to murder and rape the victims. Samsam was sentenced by Bloemfontein High Court on 31 October 2019, to two life terms for murder, rape and kidnapping of the two Correctional Service Officials.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the Provincial Investigation Unit for their resilience and commitment in ensuring that those responsible for this evil gruesome deed are brought to book.
