
FREE STATE — A 20-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Zastron Magistrate Court facing a murder charge following a fatal stabbing in the Matlakeng area. The arrest comes as local police investigate the death of 27-year-old Kamohelo Thuso, who was declared dead upon arrival at a medical facility.
The incident occurred at approximately 13:30 on Sunday, 12 July 2026, near a well-known tavern in Itumeleng Location, Matlakeng, Zastron. Members of the Visible Policing Unit were on duty when they received a report from the Zastron SAPS Community Service Centre regarding an individual who had allegedly been stabbed.
Prior to the police dispatch, the victim’s family had already transported him to a nearby hospital. Authorities also received a formal complaint regarding the stabbing from a nurse working at the medical facility.
Officers arrived at the hospital at roughly 14:30, where they consulted with the attending physician. The doctor examined the patient, identified as 27-year-old Mr. Kamohelo Thuso, and found no signs of life, officially declaring him dead at the hospital.
Following these developments, preliminary investigations led to the swift arrest of a 20-year-old suspect from Phomolong Location, also situated in Matlakeng, Zastron. Authorities confirmed that the victim and the suspect resided at the exact same residential address.
The motive behind the fatal altercation remains unknown. Police in Zastron continue their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder, and the accused is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
