An elderly couple was attacked by a group of unknown males who stole firearms from the farmhouse and fled in the complainant’s bakkie.

On Wednesday 01 May 2024 at about 23:30, the elderly couple, aged 65 and 66, was sitting in their living room at their farm near Ladybrand when they heard a sound in the kitchen.

Suddenly, four unknown African males allegedly entered the house, and one of the suspects hit the 66-year-old man with an unknown object on the head and tied the couple with sheets and blindfolded them.

The suspects, armed with a crowbar, demanded keys to the safe and stole eleven firearms. Six rifles, two shotguns, two handguns and one revolver. Before they fled the scene, suspects further took household items, then fled the scene in a white Mahindra single-cab bakkie with registration HXL158 FS.

Both victims sustained injuries on the forehead, arms and head. The suspects allegedly gained entry by breaking the burglar door. The couple was taken to the hospital in a serious but stable condition. Ladybrand police opened a house robbery case for further investigation.

The Provincial Organised Crime Unit, working together with Ladybrand police, has launched a manhunt. Anyone who might have information on the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact Detective Colonel Ben Bolsiek 082 466 8530 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send an anonymous tip off to My SAPS App.
