BLOEMFONTEIN – The District Commissioner of Mangaung Metro, Major-General Arthur Peter Adams, his deputies; Brigadier Dingiliswe Esau Fothoane and Brigadier Teboho Raymond Jacobs, Station Commanders together with Visible Policing Commander as well as Detective Branch Commanders took charge of integrated multidisciplinary Operation Shanela II high-density deployment in identified crime hotspots in Bloemspruit, Kopanong and Mangaung Polices Stations areas. The District Commissioner gave marching orders to members of the South African Police Service various units, Department of Home Affairs, and Bloemfontein Fire Brigade on the parade of newly built Sonskyn Police Station grounds.

The team was divided into three groups to execute different operational concepts such as foot patrols, vehicle patrols, vehicle checkpoints, and stop-and-search actions. The operation is focused on the prevention of proliferation of illegal drugs and prohibited firearms, assault incidents that lead to other serious crimes such as murder, gender-based violence and domestic violence cases, house robberies and carjackings. Four shebeens were closed down, fines issued for selling liquor whilst not being duly registered to do so, and liquor confiscated in Pieter Swarts and Phase 7. A total of nine persons were arrested for transgression in terms of the Immigration Act.

During the early hours of today, the Rural Safety team on patrols recovered 16 heads of cattle reported to have been stolen from a farm. No arrest was effected. Policing actions continue across all stations in Mangaung Metro.
