Three suspects aged between 30 to 35 are appearing in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ court on the morning of 9 November 2022, following their arrest on charges of murder, after the lifeless body of the victim was found hanging from a tree at his residence in May 2022.
The victim, an employee of the Department of Education was thought to have died in an apparent suicide incident however, an inquest has since been changed to murder after one of the accomplices handed himself over to the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Unit, stating that the victim never committed suicide but that the victim was murdered implicating himself and his accomplices.
One of the three suspects will additionally be charged on a case of rape and attempted murder, after the suspect raped another victim after threatening her at gunpoint to comply to his instructions.
At the time of the arrest a firearm was seized.
The investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests are imminent.
