Police operationalized information about a male person who was in possession of possible gold bearing material. A joint operation was conducted which led to the arrest and seizure of Amalgam.
On 5 January 2023 at about 13:00, information was processed and operationalised about possible gold bearing material. A Knock Out Team organized an operation whereby a house was identified in Bedelia, Welkom and a request was made to search the premises.
While SAPS members and Security personnel were busy searching the premises, two bottle caps containing possible gold bearing material with the street value of R68 000 and two cellphones were found.
A 42-year-old man was arrested for acquisition, disposal and possession of unwrought precious metals.
The suspect will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 January 2023.
