A 34-year-old man made his first appearance in the Brandfort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, facing a charge of murder.

The case stems from an incident earlier that same day. Police reported that at approximately 00:50, they were summoned to a suspected stabbing in the Phahameng location. Upon arrival, officers were led to the back of a house where they discovered the body of a 41-year-old man lying motionless on the ground.

The victim was found with stab wounds to his shoulder and chest. Emergency services personnel certified him dead at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates that the two men, who were siblings, had been involved in an argument over electricity usage. According to the police account, the altercation escalated when the older sibling allegedly attempted to stab his younger brother with a knife. The younger brother reportedly overpowered the victim, disarmed him, and then used the knife to fatally stab him.

Police confiscated a knife believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. Investigations are ongoing.

The suspect, identified as Mbaipheli Joseph Dintwe (34), was subsequently arrested for murder. Following his court appearance today, the matter was postponed to 15 December 2025 for a bail application.
