Police, Detectives and K9 Unit members reacted swiftly following an alleged business robbery where a Chinese business was robbed by two suspects and police managed to arrest one of the two suspects and recovered all robbed items.

It’s alleged that on 8 July 2023 at about 18:45, the 53-year-old Chinese businessman was in the supermarket, opened for business day, when he was accosted by two suspects wearing balaclavas and one armed with a firearm.

They demanded money and robbed two cellphones from the owner and employee and fled the scene on foot.

No injuries were reported.

Apparently, at about 19:45 the same day, the police were informed and shown footage in which they immediately identified the two suspects of Manyatseng Township.

Other members have been activated including K9 Unit members which led to the swift tracing and arrest of the one suspect.

Police recovered an airgun, two cellphones and the cash that was robbed from the business.

The second suspect is still on the run.

The arrested suspect, aged in his 20s, is expected to appear before the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 11 July 2023, facing a charge of armed robbery.

The Thabo Mofutsanyana District Commissioner, Major General Jan Tsotetsi applauded the members for their excellent work that has led to the speedy arrest and recovery of the items as that also brings back confidence from community to police.
