The accused person, Mpho Patrick Tladi of Bluegumbosch in Qwaqwa has been sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment for murder of Thabang Edwin Mokotla (25) and three years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to his twin brother, Thabiso Edward Mokotla (25) from Sasolburg.

During December 2018 the twin boys attended initiation school at Velddvrede Farm in Makwane-Qwaqwa.

It was discovered that the conditions at the initiation was not good and the pair complained about it. Unfortunately the accused attacked the twins with a knobkerrie and injured one and other one killed.

He was arrested and found guilty on 11 March 2022. On count of murder was sentenced to 15 years and assault to three years. The two counts will run concurrently, he will spend 15 years in jail.

The acting Provincial Commissioner Free State, Maj General Solly Lesia welcomes the sentence and added that this will send a message to groupings that visit initiation schools to cause trouble. He also applauded the investigating officer for great work done and justice served to family of deceased and friends.
