Following the arrest of rival IJP and Al Qaeda gang members by Welkom Anti Gang Unit in Bronville, four suspects belonging to IJP gang have appeared at Welkom Magistrates’ Court for a case of murder.

Their case was postponed to Tuesday, 24 March 2020 for bail application and they remain in custody. They are Siyambonga “Lily” Joja (19), Letlatsa Lehula (22), Aphelele “Ranzo” Njilo (21), Motanyane Khotseng (26).

In addition, the other two aged 26 and 31 who were later arrested in the same case will appear on 18 March 2020. They are also alleged IJP gang members.

The other seven arrested ‘Al Qaeda’ gang members will appear in court on 19 March 2020, for cases ranging from arson, malicious damage to property and possession of dangerous weapon.

Members of Welkom Anti-Gang Unit are still working on these cases and look forward to arresting more of the involved suspects. Two others were released by the police during investigation as they could not be possibly linked to the cases.
