Godfrey Olivier (41) will serve fifteen years of direct imprisonment for the rape of his 45-year-old wife. A case of rape was opened at Kopanong Police Station after Godfrey forced himself on his wife and violated her sexually in front of their 10-year-old son on Monday 3 April 2021. Godfrey was arrested days later and subsequently granted bail.
A warrant of arrest was issued later because Godfrey didn’t return to court on the next date given. During consultation with the victim, she wanted to withdraw the case, but the state refused as the matter was domestic violence-related. Sergeant Katlego Pheko from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Mangaung Metro led the evidence in Bloemfontein Court for sexual offenses.
Godfrey Olivier was then sentenced to serve fifteen years of direct imprisonment on Monday 22 January 2024. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
