Human settlements: Thieving ANC blames apartheid for its own shortcomings

The only thing that the ANC government in the Free State and its Department of Human Settlements have succeeded in is not providing the people of the Free State with proper housing and sanitation.

After 26 years of a so-called free democracy, the government and its Department are still maintaining that Apartheid is to blame for the current housing problems in the province. The reality, however, is that after being in power for 26 long years, many people in the Free State still do not have access to proper housing, water and sanitation.

The various housing scandals of the past ten years, in which various high-ranking ANC officials have been implicated, have made it abundantly clear that the ANC government is only focused on what it can take for itself instead of what it can offer the people of the Free State. No budget will serve as a cure for the ruling party’s greed, maladministration and incompetence.

Simply blaming the past and Apartheid will not provide the poor with houses.

As long as this Department keeps blaming the past for its own shortcomings, misguided priorities and maladministration, the people of the Free State will continue to suffer. And that will be the bitter heritage of this provincial government.
