House robbery reported at a farm in Ventersburg, five suspects to apply for bail
House robbery reported at a farm in Ventersburg, five suspects to apply for bail

A 31-year-old Alfred Nkhata was at the farm in the district of Ventersburg when he saw seven unknown males armed with knives and handgun on 20 September 2024 at about 06:00. He was tied up with cable ties and at gun point instructed to cover his face with a blanket. One of them holding a firearm was covering his face with a cloth.

They seven suspects reportedly ransacked the farm house, taking furniture, electric appliances, using a trailer, a white Nissan bakkie to load the stolen items. Nobody was injured. A case of House robbery was registered for further investigation after the SAPS was informed at 10:00.

On 21 September 2024, a team comprising of Ventersburg Detective Services members led by their Commander, Warrant Officer Sechaba Mothega, Meloding Visible Policing and Welkom K9 Unit members received information about the whereabouts of the suspects.

The information was operationalised and a house was approached in Meloding Location where the following items were found and seized: the meat of two slaughtered pigs taken during the robbery, a white Nissan bakkie, a trailer, a gas pistol and knives.

Five suspects aged 21, 27, 30, 35 and 46 were arrested. The arrested suspects are facing charges of house robbery and possession of suspected stolen properties and possession of an unlicensed firearm. They have in Ventersburg Magistrate’s Court on 23 September 2024, and the case was postponed for bail application on 26 September 2024. Three accomplices are still on the loose and a manhunt has been launched to trace them.
