The Shosholoza Meyl train accident near Hennenman occurred when a truck took a chance and tried to cross the railway line causing a collision with the oncoming train.
So far, 18 people already died when the train burst into flames as a result of the accident. More than 254 passengers were injured, four are in a critical condition, and 23 are in a serious condition. Passengers were treated at the scene, but the death toll could rise as three coaches burned and corpses must still be removed.
The details of the truck driver are unknown.
