Investigating officer, Sergeant Lebohang Mohai of Selosesha Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit worked tirelessly to put a rapist behind bars for life.

Preserving evidence after a rape ordeal can help investigators positively link the suspect to a crime. Vital pieces of evidence must be collected at least within 72 hours of the incident.

The case must be reported soonest to allow investigators to comb the scene of crime.

The Selosesha Magistrates’ Court recently found Gomolemo Benjamin Shuping (25) of Thabanchu guilty for a rape incident which took place in May 2019.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Shuping had broken into a house in Zone 4 on the fateful evening where he found the victim (11) alone. He raped her.

The case was assigned to Sergeant Lebohang Mohai. By December 2020, Shuping had been positively linked and arrested.

He had been in custody until his sentencing on 15 September 2021.
