A police detective is to appear in court today after he approached a suspect demanding money in order to make a case disappear.
On 18 February 2024 at about 08:00 Heidedal SAPS followed up on information on bribery allegations after a male who was arrested and detained on 15 February 2024 on drug-related charges in Heidedal informed his friend that someone wanted him to pay a bribe.
The suspect, who is a 53-year-old Warrant Officer, visited the victim, demanding a sum of money to assist him so his case does not continue to go to court on Monday 19 February 2024.
The Anti-Corruption Unit received the information on Sunday 18 February 2024 and the Warrant Officer was arrested on 19 February 2024 in a sting operation after he was found with bribery money in his possession.
The suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein magistrate court on Tuesday 20 February 2024 for corruption.
