The Free State police have welcomed the severe sentences handed down by the Henneman Regional Court to two members of the notorious “TDK” gang for a violent 2020 home invasion that resulted in murder, attempted rape, and robbery.
Lebogang Chaka (25) and Karabo Masilo (24) were sentenced to multiple life terms plus decades in prison following a brutal attack in the Airforce location, Phomolong, Henneman. The pair were successfully traced and arrested by Sergeant Letlojane and the Organised Crime Team after the incident.
According to the evidence presented in court, the attack occurred in the early hours of 27 November 2020, at approximately 03:15. The two accused, identified as TDK gang members, entered a home and immediately confronted 20-year-old Mpho Leepo. They began stabbing him, accusing him of being responsible for the death of their friend.
During the violent assault, one of the suspects attempted to rape Mr. Leepo’s sister. A neighbour, alerted by the commotion, intervened but was severely assaulted by Chaka and Masilo. The suspects then fled the scene with Mr. Leepo’s sneakers and his sister’s cellphone.
A thorough investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects, resulting in a successful prosecution. The court found Lebogang Chaka and Karabo Masilo guilty on multiple charges.
They were each sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, an additional life term for rape, 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery, six years for attempted murder, and a further 15 years for another count of robbery.
