Free State legislature gives ‘Vrede dairy bosses’ a waiver

The joint provincial committee of public accounts and finances in the Free State legislature decided with the ANC majority that Ace Magashule, former premier, and two previous MECs for agriculture, did not have to answer questions in the legislature’s meeting around the R millions wasted in the Vrede dairy project.

The three’s role in the project has allegedly been so diluted by the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, that they will come off ‘scot free’.

Analysts say the message that the ANC is giving is that they will protect their comrades, come what may.
