With Festive Season Operations still in full swing, Provincial Security Clusters joined hands to fight crime in the Free State.

The holiday season is the time when families visit one another and still need to be safe.

Men and women in blue continue to conform to their mandate as specified in the Constitution, among others, to prevent, combat, and investigate crime while creating a safe and secure environment for all people in South Africa.

SAPS together with the departments Destea, Home Affairs, Traffic and Road Freight Partner achieved the following success from 29 November till 5 December 2022:

One thousand and fifty-six (1056) suspects were arrested for various crimes in the province.

Fourteen (14) suspects were arrested for murder; one hundred and ninety-five (195) for assault, twenty seven (27) for rape; eighty-one (81) suspects were arrested for drug-related offenses; and thirty-six (36) for driving under the influence of liquor. Seventy three (73) dangerous weapons were removed from suspects, who were then detained for possession of dangerous weapons.

Ninety-eight (98) people were arrested for being illegally in the country.

Twenty-eight (28) were arrested for burglary at residential properties, while twenty-three (23) wanted suspects were traced and detained.

During these operations, police recovered various drugs including Cocaine, Crystal meth, Dagga, Nyaope, Mandrax and other drugs. Police also seized counterfeit Cigarettes. One thousand six hundred and seven (1607) fines were issued.

The focus area is still to address the scourge of Gender Based Violence and Femicide, to intensify efforts to combat aggravated robberies to enhance border security. These focus areas were stipulated when launching the Festive Season Operations in Koffiefontein.
