Kagisanong: A woman found herself vulnerable in the hands of her forty-four-year-old ex-boyfriend.
On Saturday night 03 September 2022, the victim was having some drinks at a local shebeen in Caleb Motshabi, Bloemfontein when the accused Thabang Pitso approached her and forced the frightened forty-nine-year-old woman to go with him to an unknown address whereby he raped her.
Following the incident, the victim reported her ordeal to the police and due to the efforts put into the case by the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigating Officer Detective Constable Teboho Molefi the suspect was arrested later on and charged with rape.
After a yearlong trial, the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court found Pitso guilty of rape and sentenced him to twenty years in prison, declared him unfit to possess a firearm and his name was added on the sexual offenders register on Friday 22 September 2023.
