Five die in Free State crash

Police in the Free State on Saturday said it looking for assistance to trace the relatives of five people killed in a collision between a car and a truck at the R103 t-junction with Cornelia and Warden roads near Phuthaditjhaba.

The collision, in which one man survived, happened late on Friday night

“The driver of the sedan failed to stop at the junction and his car drove pass the junction and went straight underneath the passing truck’s first trailer. In the process five unknown people (men) from the sedan died instantly on the scene,” police said in a statement.

“The sixth person who was still alive from the crash has been taken to local hospital for sustaining serious injuries. The names of the deceased are not yet known at this stage as the police are trying to be assisted with positive identities of the deceased including the one in hospital.”

Police opened a culpable homicide case for investigation.
