The 21-year-old man from Petsana near Reitz has been arrested after he tried to run away from the police, community and farmers, but was later arrested on the R26.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, 25 October 2022 at about 08:30 the couple from Petsana phoned each other, the husband saying that he caught two possible suspects who broke into their home.

It’s further alleged that whilst they were busy one of the suspects threatened the husband and pointed him with a firearm.

The complainant went into his house and came back in possession of a knobkerrie and the suspect managed to escape into the direction of nearby farms.

It’s further alleged that community was activated to chase the suspect and later the police and farmers joined to pursue him.

He was finally arrested on the R26 outside Reitz towards Bethlehem. The firearm which he possessed threw it away but was later recovered only to find that it’s an air gun.

The 21-year-old man is expected to appear before the Reitz Magistrate court on Wednesday, 26 October 2022 facing a charge of pointing with a firearm.
