A farm murder took place on 22 July 2023, at about 17:00, on the farm Summerslie, in the Sterkfontein area near Harrismith in the Free State province of South Africa.
A farm worker noticed the door of the home was broken open, the dog was injured and there was blood on the kitchen floor and alerted the brother of Mike Pattinson (67).
The police responded and found that the home had been ransacked.
Household items, including a computer were missing. Mike Pattinson’s vehicle, a Toyota, Urban Cruiser was also missing.
Mike Pattinson was then reported missing.
During follow up operations the vehicle was found at a house in Tseseng, Qwaqwa.
The police descended on the house fired shots at the fleeing suspects.
Seven suspects, including two woman were arrested. Two of the suspects were injured and taken up in hospital under police guard.
Further investigation lead to the police finding the body of Mike Pattinson in the house.
He was found with a number of wounds. A number of stolen items were also recovered.
