A farm murder took place on 6 November 2020, between 03:00 and 05:00, on Swartpan farm, just out side Hennenman, in the Free State province of South Africa. The farmer, Pieter Hills (56) was shot in the head and his son, Eddie (26), was stabbed in the back when he arrived at the farmhouse.

An unknown number of attackers brutally murdered the farmer, ransacked the home and fled the scene. The farmer’s wife, Antoinette and daughter were not at home at the time of the attack. The domestic worker at the farm made the gruesome discovery after she was called by the deceased’s wife who was concerned since she tried in vain to get hold of her husband and son.

While it is unclear what all was robbed, at least two firearms were stolen. The son has been admitted to a hospital in Welkom and is in a critical condition. Farmers, police and other role players responded but there have been no arrests.

Investigation continues and anyone with information should please contact Detective Captain James Mahlatsi, Detective Commander at Hennenman 082 4530 806 or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111, alternatively send information via MySAPS App anonymously.
