A farm murder took place on 25 October 2020, at 22:00 on a pig farm between Welkom and Virginia, in the Free State province of South Africa. Andries Loots (63) was assaulted and then shot multiple times when he and a security guard were patrolling the farm after a spate of burglaries.
There had been a number of thefts of iron roofing on the farm and the men were patrolling to make sure everything was in order when a group of armed attackers overpowered and assaulted them. The security guard was beaten and then forced to assist in the theft and loading of the iron roof sheets and other items.
Loots was assaulted and dragged to one of the pig pens where he was shot multiple times. Police are investigating but there have been no arrests.
