A farm attack took place on 14 August 2020, at 17:45, on a farm between Petrus Steyn and Reitz, in the Free State province of South Africa. Attackers gained entrance to the home by accessing the security gate keys that were in the door. The family’s son who was alone at home was attacked and assaulted with an iron pole. When his mom and sister arrived home they were also overpowered.
The daughter fought back and knocked one of the attackers to the floor and then fled the scene and raised the alarm on her phone.
Farmers immediately responded and were on the scene within minutes. In a swift and well organised operation the farmers pursued the attackers who had fled in the families vehicle.
The attackers lost control of the vehicle near the Liebenbergsvlei river and fled further on foot into the dense bush. But there were no arrests.
There were no serious injuries. The swift reaction by the daughter and the response by the farmers prevented what could have ended up a very much worse situation for the family.
Police are investigating the attack.
