Johannes van Zyl (63) was attacked, assaulted and robbed on Friday morning 13 September 2019, at 08:00, by five people pretending to be customers who wanted to buy milk at his smallholding in Bloemspruit. The farmer was overpowered, assaulted with a firearm, tied up and locked him in the garage together with a worker.

The attackers then robbed two firearms, jewelry and an amount of money from the house.

Mr van Zyl was the neighbour of Anna Herbst (61) who was robbed and murdered on 7 July 2019. Her house was then set alight by the attackers and Mr van Zyl was the one who raised alarm when he saw her house burning.

There is no other information available at this stage. No arrests have been made.
