On Thursday 19 January 2023, the police arrested a 31-year-old man for the murder of Chukwiebuka Nwanya. Chukwiebuka was killed execution-style with one of the gunshot wounds on the side of the head above the ear.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested by a dedicated task team from Parkweg.
The investigative intelligence and observation brilliance of a Warrant Officer kicked in when he was busy taking down the witness statement, his analytic ability enabled him to remember that there was a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm that was opened on Sunday 19 June 2022 by a complainant.
The Warrant Officer then requested the docket and the witness confirmed the complainant in that particular case as the suspect.
The tracing operation started.
The search team first visited the suspect’s address in Langehovernpark and learned that he had moved out.
The expertise of the Crime Intelligence Unit was roped in and information directed the team to Heuwelsig.
The suspect was finally arrested on 19 January 2023, at about 08:00.
He will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
