On Thursday, 13 August 2020 at 18:30, Welkom POP Reaction Team whilst off-duty, followed up on information about unlicensed firearms, ammunition and dagga.

After a search warrant was obtained, the members proceeded to the identified premises in Sloja Section, Meloding, where members found that there was nobody present.

The members kept observation in the vicinity of the house until a female and a male were seen entering the premises at about 22:15. They were approached and shown the search warrant.

During the search, members found a firearm with the serial number filed off and a magazine with no rounds, a.38 Special revolver firearm with serial number filed off and four live rounds, a licensed Norinco firearm in a holster inside a bag with no live rounds and there were additional eight live rounds of ammunition found inside a jacket.

A further search was conducted in a separate room where 357 pokes of dagga and five plastic bags with loose dagga were found inside a big plastic black refuse bag.

The couple both aged 55 were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions as well Contravention of the Firearms Control Act and dealing in dagga.

They will appear in the Virginia Magistrate’s Court on the 17 August 2020.
