Corruption: Home Affairs immigration official sentenced, Zastron

Ezekiel Mokhachane (48) appeared before the Zastron Regional Court on 23 March 2023 where he was convicted and sentenced as charged for corruption.

On 19 May 2017, the Bloemfontein based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team received information from the complainant that Home Affairs immigration official based in Zastron took their traveling documents and asylum documents and that he is demanding R3000-00 for the release of their documents.

The Hawks’ then followed up on the information and arrested the immigration official after he was found with R3000-00 he demanded from the complainant.

The court sentenced Mokhachane to five (5) years direct imprisonment.

The Provincial Head of Free State Major General Mokgadi Bokaba applauds the court sanction of direct imprisonment as this will send a strong message to those entrusted to uphold the law.
