Corruption, extortion, bribery: Traffic officer gets bail, Bloemfontein

A 39 year old Free State Traffic Officer, Tshiya Pule Modise implicated in an e-wallet bribe scam has been granted bail by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 13 September 2019.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Crime Investigation uncovered the official’s apparent deceitful conduct following numerous complaints levelled against him from motorists related to allegations of corruption, extortion, bribery and money laundering.

The officer allegedly demand money from motorists for traffic offences, threatening them with arrest if they didn’t comply. He would insist on money being sent to him via e-wallet service as opposed to taking cash.

The Hawks’ investigation has identified numerous individuals in and around the Free State who paid the said bribes as the probe continues.

The case is postponed to the 23 October 2019, whilst Modise has been granted R3500 bail.
