A 34 year-old Constable working at Van Rooyen Port of Entry in Wepener was arrested along with his 40 year-old accomplice from Lesotho on Thursday, 2 February 2017. They are both facing charges of Corruption and Defeating the ends of justice.

The Hawks swiftly acted on information about the duo that approached SARS official to negotiate an offer of a bribe for the release of the goods worth R134 000 that were confiscated by SARS due to none compliance. A waylay investigation was put in place to intercept the R30 000 bribe transaction and the duo was arrested on the scene.

The suspects are expected to appear in Wepener Magistrates Court on Monday, 6 February 2017.
