Convict sentenced to serve time for assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm and murder

Friends gathered to have fun at a house in Sejake Square near Bloemfontein on Saturday 25 September 2023. Amongst them were two African males and a lady involved in a love triangle. A fight broke out during the evening when Tshokolo wanted to leave with Stokinyana. The situation angered Koos Marumo who stabbed another male, Seuntjie Ismael during the scuffle. Some of the friends left the house whilst others remained behind

Another fight occurred the following day, Sunday 26 September 2023 at about 09:00 when Stokinyana and friends visited Seuntjie Ismael to check up on him; Seuntjie had been to hospital for treatment on the stab wounds. This time, Koos Joe Marumo stabbed Tshokolo Johnson (28) because both wanted to leave with Stokinyana. A witness testified how blood was gushing out of the neck wound where Marumo stabbed Tshokolo.

Two separate cases were opened; the Assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm in Kagisanong and Murder at Kopanong Police Station. Koos was arrested and the trial for both cases started in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court. Koos was accused on several different types of offences before and was found guilty on Rape charge and was on parole when he stabbed Tshokolo to death.

Koos Joe Marumo (44) was found guilty for Assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm and Murder on Wednesday 24 January 2024. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
